Are you GAME? Global maritime organizations unite to accelerate electrification

On the Rhine stage at Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe this morning, four leading maritime associations announced the formation of the Global Alliance for Maritime Electrification (GAME) – a new coalition of non-profit organizations dedicated to accelerating the electrification of maritime transportation.

GAME unites the efforts of IEMA – International Electric Marine Association, ZESTAs – Zero Emissions Ship Technology Association, MBF – Maritime Battery Forum, and EOPSA – European Onshore Power Supply Association. Together, these founding members represent more than 250 organizations worldwide, bringing a broad base of expertise to the alliance.

Initially focusing on inland, nearshore and commercial vessels, GAME aims to advance zero-emission maritime solutions through coordinated research, policy advocacy and industry collaboration.

The launch comes amid growing climate urgency and increased scrutiny of maritime emissions. While large ocean-going ships often draw public attention, most of the vessels currently in operation are small to mid-size craft working near the coast – making them strong candidates for electrification.

“We see tremendous potential to fast-track zero-emission solutions for the world’s workboats, ferries and passenger vessels,” said IEMA president Adria Jover. “By aligning our strategies, GAME members will amplify each other’s voices, reduce redundancy and better serve this industry transition.”
