Mobile shore power connection system
)
The Igus Mobile Shore Power Outlet (iMSPO) will be revealed at the expo. Claimed to be the world’s first mobile ‘socket’ for shore power supply, it can be positioned in any location along the terminal where a vessel is berthed. The system makes it safe, fast and sustainable to supply container ships with shore power. It allows ships to shut down their diesel engines in ports, switch to more environmentally friendly shore power and thus significantly reduce their CO2 emissions.
An iMSPO system can cover a berth of 400m or more in length and consists of rail elements in which a mobile trolley with a socket box is installed. An Igus energy chain system guides the cables safely and reliably, supported by rollers specifically designed for long distances and heavy loads. This protects the cables from wear and prevents damage or accidents caused by unprotected medium-voltage cables lying around the terminal.
The system allows the shore power supply to be adjusted to the vessel’s position, rather than the vessel adjusting to the available shore power outlets. This gives terminal operators full flexibility in planning connections while reducing operating, installation and maintenance costs.
