Molabo powers passenger ferry with safe, reliable 48V electric drives
)
Specialist in innovative electric drive technology, Molabo brings its latest award-winning propulsion system to this year’s expo. Visit the booth to explore its 48V Aries i50 electric propulsion system, now in full-time commercial operation aboard the Ecocat Tres, Barcelona’s new all-electric passenger ferry. The ferry is part of the Port of Barcelona’s Bus Nàutic route connecting the Drassanes and Llevant wharves every 15-30 minutes. Powered by two Aries i50 inboard drives (50kW each), the system is integrated with 216kWh of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery storage, and rooftop solar panels supplying up to 40% of the ferry’s daily energy needs.
Molabo’s award-winning low-voltage architecture delivers an unparalleled output of 50kW at just 48 volts. This approach eliminates the complexity and cost of hiring high-voltage-certified technicians. Instead, operators can minimize downtime by installing and maintaining low-voltage systems with their existing staff.
Molabo’s Intelligent Stator Cage Drive (ISCAD) design splits current across multiple phases, enabling robust performance at low voltage. The Ecocat Tres deployment demonstrates how safe, efficient and modular low-voltage electric drive systems can be scaled for urban transportation and commercial vessels alike.
