Makoto Ito, PhD, is a senior scientist at ClassNK's Research Institute. He specializes in safety assessment methods of autonomous ships and remote operation, contributing to the development of safety requirements and evaluation frameworks. Dr Ito has been involved in the ClassNK MASS project team since April 2022. He plays a key role in national and international projects for MASS, including technical support for the certification of autonomous ships in Japanese projects and participation in international conferences, where he has significantly contributed to the development of safety assessment methods. His work also involves providing technical advice to international regulatory discussions.
